We sat down with Pablo Lleras, Director of Engineering, to talk about Pixlee TurnTo’s mission to change the way marketers build relationships with today's consumers and to celebrate authentic brand storytelling.

It is well-documented that social proof – be it text, star-ratings, social images or videos – is crucial to consumers when online shopping. Seeing the need for one consolidated vendor to power all types of community-sourced content, Pixlee merged with TurnTo in 2021. By joining forces last year, we’ve been well poised to grow alongside the brands that trust us with their most valuable asset: their community.

We saw the potential for exponential growth within Toronto’s start-up tech sector in 2015, and jumped at the chance to get involved early. Canadian institutions, such as the University of Waterloo and U of T, are well known for their academic prowess, but we wanted to give these talented graduates a chance to grow their careers at home. We were confident that by bringing Pixlee TurnTo to Toronto, we could attract talent who wanted to remain closer to home, and in that process, help build a stronger foundation for other tech companies to do the same.
Fast forward to now, we’ve seen this story play out just as we had hoped, with huge players like Shopify and Wealthsimple helping to solidify Toronto as a leading tech hub. More and more entrepreneurs are beginning their journey in Toronto and hiring local talent, and we are proud to play a role in that movement while building an amazing team along the way. Toronto will continue to be our preferred location when it comes to hiring engineering talent, and we foresee a continued effort to grow the team in coming years.
Pablo himself also reflects on returning home to Toronto to grow the engineering team: “Having been raised in Toronto, I’ve always been an advocate for nurturing and promoting the exceptional Toronto tech talent. I’m incredibly proud of the amazing team we’ve put together at Pixlee TurnTo thus far and look forward to continuing to uplevel the surrounding talent as our organization continues to grow.”
Pixlee TurnTo has grown its Toronto team to over 20 people in engineering, product, and customer success. With the vast majority of the team sitting in the engineering department, the company is looking to expand further with Full Stack Engineers and Shopify Platform Engineers.
