The Toronto Region’s world-renowned AI ecosystem spans academia, research institutes, and incubators and accelerators, breathing life into innovative companies working to solve the world’s greatest challenges through the power of AI. It’s a calculus that’s attracting talent from all corners of the globe and investment from multinational anchor firms from the likes of Uber, IBM, Samsung, and more.
On October 8th, the World Summit AI will gather the global AI ecosystem of Enterprise, BigTech, Startups, Investors and Science, and the brightest brains in AI to tackle head-on the most burning AI issues and set the global AI agenda. This year, Toronto Global will be a part of a unique collaboration between Invest in Canada, the Trade Commissioner Service in the Netherlands, the Vector Institute and the Region of Durham, showcasing the world’s most innovative companies, talent and researchers solving the biggest AI challenges – all happening in the Toronto Region.
The Toronto Region is where research in deep learning first came to prominence. Strategic investment in public and privately funded research institutes across the Toronto Region has signalled internationally that we are building toward the future of AI. Our leading research institutes are working to connect researchers and industry with exciting opportunities for collaboration. There’s no better place to find the best research minds for AI.
At the Summit, we will be joined by the Vector Institute, a globally recognized corporation dedicated to research in the field of AI, excelling in machine and deep learning. Led by Chief Scientific Advisor and ‘Godfather of AI’ Geoffrey Hinton, the Vector Institute is establishing the Toronto Region as a global epicentre for R&D in AI. Backed by more than USD $120 million in public and corporate funding, Vector is driving educational change to meet emerging market needs. The Institute’s collaboration with industry, academia, and government is turning us into the world’s leading producer of deep learning graduates. Notable corporate partners include Google, Shopify, Loblaws, Accenture, Thomson Reuters, Magna International, NVIDIA, Uber, Air Canada, and all five major Canadian banks.
We are also pleased to speak alongside our colleagues from the Region of Durham, including representatives from Ontario Tech University. Located east of Toronto in the manufacturing hub of Durham Region, Durham College Hub for Applied Research in Artificial Intelligence for Business Solutions (the AI Hub) offers industry partners access to technical expertise, state-of-the-art facilities and platforms, and student talent, enabling companies to uncover business insights that increase productivity and growth. The Hub works closely with industry to solve particular AI problems.
